Great Getaways for Christmas
Memorable holidays in Cornwall
Trelowarren has been featured in the Saturday Times and the Saturday Express as a great place to spend Christmas so why not book a cottage if you want an ideal escape.
The charms of an old-fashioned Cornish Christmas are proving popular in these uncertain times. Both The Saturday Times and The Sunday Express have featured Trelowarren as a perfect place for the festive escape. Carols and candles; mulled wine and pizza (cooked in our wood fired oven); a Christmas Day swim in the sea or floodlit evening swimming in the heated pool; a trip to see the Mousehole lights…

For a long time we have thought that the fun part of Christmas needs to be the bit where you do things together. Frankly, presents are a bit over-rated, and although excess has its place, if the holiday was just about eating and drinking too much, and then watching telly, it might not give you the kind of energy you need to go back to work in those dark wet January days.

So what does re-charge our batteries? Singing carols is fun, and walking home in the darkness under the stars is pretty good too, and so is a taking the dogs for a good long walk along Godrevy beach and stopping for hot chocolate at the Sand Sifter before walking back. Lighting the fire and playing charades with everyone has been known to banish old feuds (and start new ones), and it’s never too early to sit down to teach the youngest how to play Cheat or Liar Dice. We go to Eden to go skating and to the cinema to see a blockbuster - and we don’t see it in 3D because it costs too much and always gives somebody a headache.
In short we take heart in the darkest part of the year from doing things, low-key things, together.
